Todd Hoke v. Jeff Talmadge

Hillbilly Haiku House, Lebanon, TN

Todd Hoke and Jeff Talmadge in a no-holds barred, winner-take-all-bragging-rights grudge match in the Hillbilly Haiku living room. Toe to toe and song to song, quip for quip they'll have at it all evening long. We saw Todd and Jeff do this at a music conference and we knew immediately it would be a house concert home-run. Lucky for us, they are gonna rumble in the H3C living room!  :-))))

Mary Gauthier with Scott Nolan & Joanna Miller opening

Hillbilly Haiku House, Lebanon, TN

Our Hillbilly Haiku year end finale, and we intend to go out with a bang! :-))

Mary's life reads a bit like a songwriter's idea notebook. Gven up for adoption as a baby, she was taken in by an alcoholic father and suicidal mother, chaos and pandemonium the order of the day. She stole her parents car and ran away at age 15, beginning a downward spiral of substance abuse, multiple stints in detox and halfway houses and squatting with friends. She enrolled at LSU as a philosophy major, but dropped out her senior year. She ended up in Boston, managing a small cafe and went back to school at Cambridge School of Culinary Arts.

Still using, she hatched a plan to open a New Orleans style Cajun restaurant in Back Bay, and Dixie Kitchen proved a success. Restaurant drudgery eventually caught up with her and she had to run away. Again. But this time she got sober. And the song floodgates opened. Drag Queens in Limousines (1999, with her signature “I Drink”) drew a four-star rating in Rolling Stone and broke Mary’s career wide open.Going on to work with producers Gurf Morlix, and Joe Henry, Mary has produced incredible CD after incredible CD with classics like I Drink and Mercy Now.

These days, Mary lives it one at a time, keeping the demons at bay, always looking for answers, always asking questions. “I’ve discovered we are all wanderers of sorts, we are all looking for meaning in lives that contain no guarantees. My birth mother and my adopted family loved me the very best they could and I am grateful for their sacrifices. I do have a good life. It has been a long road and it’s taken me longer than I am proud of, but these days I find myself at peace, grateful for each borrowed day.”

Scott Nolan with Joanna Miller are touring with Mary this Fall, and will do an opening set for us.

YOU DO NOT want to miss this one! Mary's music will move you to your soul, and her heart will make you a fan for life.

As always, RSVP required, limited seating, $25 suggested donation and worth every penny, potluck hour at 4pm, music starts at 5pm.

And, we'll draw the lucky winner of our Lanakai Tenor Koa Ukulele giveaway, two more chances to get in on that. Just attend either our October or November shows. Or better yet, BOTH! :-))
